NIWREK ENGINEERING LTD. was founded by Dr. Kerwin G. Modeste in 2012. Dr. Modeste is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta, and Ontario, Canada. Dr. Modeste completed a Ph.D in Civil Engineering specializing in Geotechnical Engineering and Pavement Geotechnics with a focus on climate resilient infrastructure at York University in Ontario, Canada. He completed a Master of Science (MSc.) Degree in Civil Engineering specializing in Transportation Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering and Pavement Geotechnics) and Project Management at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. Dr. Modeste completed a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada; and an Associate Degree in Building Construction at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in St. Lucia.
Dr. Modeste has over 20 years of collective experience in the public sector, consulting engineering and the construction sector. His experience spans civil, geotechnical, and pavement engineering design and construction related to water resources infrastructure, transportation infrastructure (including highway infrastructure, airport infrastructure, and railway infrastructure), mining infrastructure, power and transmission infrastructure and oil and gas infrastructure. Dr. Modeste has worked on numerous reservoir / dam and irrigation infrastructure projects and has carried out significant work on dam safety reviews, annual performance reviews and engineering assessments for dam infrastructure in accordance with the Canadian Dam Safety Association Guidelines. Dr. Modeste has worked on the design and construction of large transportation infrastructure projects in Canada and Australia. These included P3 infrastructure projects such as the Anthony Henday Freeway and Whitemud Drive in Edmonton, Alberta; Stoney Trail Freeway in Calgary, Alberta; Herb Gray Parkway (Hwy 401 extension) in Windsor, Ontario; and FMG railway and sea-port project in Western Australia which consisted of a 250 km industrial railway from the mine to the port. Dr. Modeste has also worked on the design and construction of resource infrastructure projects including large mine infrastructure projects in Alberta and Saskatchewan, and large iron ore mining infrastructure projects in Western Australia. He has experience in the development and writing of proposal, cost control and forecasting, developing management strategies, providing corporate and technical leadership for engineering project execution, resource management, providing technical oversight and review of technical project design and execution. Dr. Modeste has served as an advisor to the owner’s and EPCM teams on the design and construction of various infrastructure projects. Dr. Modeste has also served as the subject matter expert for geohazards assessment, infrastructure constructability assessment and risk management for water resources, energy, highways, and railway infrastructure.
